Alright, I have to admit I never even knew there was a place called Fort Christmas in Christmas Florida. How cool is that? It is a historic village where a lot of the old cracker homes were moved to. Unfortunately the original Fort Christmas has rotted away. It was built a short distance away in 1837. There is a log cabin-like blockhouse which is the re-created fort. Highlands Hammock

Highlands Hammock is a state park which has a botanical garden. It also has nine hiking trails for those who enjoy hiking. If you like bicycling there is a three-mile loop drive. Do you have a horse? Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park is great place to go and see all kinds of wildlife in Florida. There is an observation tower where you can view the prairie. National Key Deer Refuge

The National Key Deer Refuge is home to many of the key deer which are the smallest deer in the world. I know it may be hard to believe but a little newborn fawn will fit right into cupped hands. You can see the deer as they come in for a drink of water from an observation deck. The best time to see these deer are in the early morning or in the late evening. There are two hiking trails that go through the pine rocklands which are called the "Wildlife Trails". Another trail they have here is a wheelchair-accessible trail called the Fred Manillo Trail. There is a trail which is recommended that you wear long pants and sleeves called Jack Watson Nature Trail. This trail has poisonwood which has sticky sap which oozes and is worst than poison ivy. St. Sebastian River

St. Sebastian River is this beautiful preserve that has open grassy forests of longleaf pine. You will find a lot of wildlife and more than 70 protected species. You can go canoeing and boating at the nearby Donald MacDonald Park or Dale Wimbrow Park or the Indian River County canoe launch. Rogers' Christmas House Village

Rogers' Christmas House Village is a great place to come and visit. It has five houses that are turn of the 20th century with gardens. As soon as you walk into the main house, you can't help but notice the two 9 foot tall white Christmas trees. They are really spectacular to see. Each house you enter has something different to see. One of the houses called the Cottage has a couple of decorated tropical palm trees. I really enjoyed the Magnolia House because I like to cook and it has lots of kitchen gadgets and cookbooks. Olustee Battlefield

Olustee Battlefield is the site of Florida's largest Civil War battle. This state park has a visitor center with historical information and artifacts. On February 20, 1864 is when this civil war took place. In a pine forest near Olustee is where more than 10,000 cavalry, infantry and artillery troops fought a five-hour battle. If you like reenactments, there is one held every February and there is a Civil War Expo which takes place in the late summer. Olustee Battlefield is located at U.S 90, Olustee, Florida.

Little Talbot Island has more than five miles of white sandy, beautiful beaches. It also has salt marshes, desert-like dunes, forests which are all on the western side of the island. Peacock Springs is also a great place to come for a picnic. It already has grills and pavilions here for you to enjoy. This park is located at 16 miles southwest of Live Oak on State Road 51, two miles east of Luraville on Peacock Springs Road.

Turbocharged engines are actually gas friendly because they make the gas being burned more efficient, not to mention the exhaust is cleaner because it is double burned. Double burned? How is that? A turbo charger equipped engine receives it's mass air flow from the already burned exhaust gases, which are very hot. This differs from a supercharger in that a supercharger uses forced cold air and is better suited for track driving unlike a turbo which is best utilized on the street. The forcing of the air into the combustion chamber allows more fuel to completely burn, delivering a larger explosion of fuel which equals more power to the drive system. This efficient use of fuel and air equals out to better fuel economy since your not relying on extra gas to get into traffic but rather gas and forced air! Turbo also gives you a better boost at higher speed, such as on highways when your trying to get to the theme park early. Adventure Island is a Key West style theme park. It has over 30 acres of water rides. One cool ride you may want to try is called Riptide. You and three other riders race each other lying on mats. Everyone goes down a height of 55 feet into your own enclosed tubes. The best part is twisting through a hairpin turn and then getting dumped into the four open-air lanes and that's when you plunge into the water. I know, it is a lot of fun. Adventure Island also has a wide selection of restaurants. If you like pizza and hot dogs head on over to Surfside Cafe. They also have one of my favorites which is homemade funnel cake. If your looking for ice cream, Gulf Scream Ice Cream has old fashioned sundaes, root beer floats, milk shakes and more. Solomon's Castle is a castle which was built by a sculptor called Howard Soloman. Lion Country Safari

This is a great attraction called Lion Country Safari. You are given a cd or cassette to listen to a narration about the animals in the park as you are driving. It is very informative and plays safari music in the background. Be on the lookout for deer and ostrich's walking around! You also may encounter rhinos, zebras and other animals along the way. The animals do have the right of way here after all. The lions you will see behind the fence. If you come around 10:30am you will have a better chance of seeing all the animals. Why? Because that's when feeding time is. There is also another park there called Safari World Park. Here they have attractions like a petting zoo, aviary, alligators and other animals. You can also play miniature golf, ride on the carousal, go for a paddle boat ride and take a boat tour. There is a picnic area here and a concession stand. You can even save some money and bring your own lunch. They also have camping here which makes for a fun family vacation. The admission for Lion Country Safari is $22.99 for adults, $20.99 for seniors and $17.49 for children. Lion Country Safari is located at 2003 Safari Rd. Loxahatchee, Florida.

Then there is Mardi Gras which has the parade of floats and people throwing beads. There is also the Marina which is located on the intercoastal waterway between the Dunedin and Clearwater Causeways. You can go fishing and sightseeing on a charter service. Right across from the Marina is Edgewater Park. Here you will find a picnic and play area as well as restrooms. Downtown Dunedin is located west of Tampa, north of Clearwater and Saint Petersburg, Florida and right on the Gulf Coast.

Outdoor Craft Art Showcase

If you are going to be near the Pier in St. Petersburg, Florida between October 25-26 of 2008, there will be an outdoor craft festival going on. It will run from 10am to 5pm on Saturday and Sunday. The craft festival will be held on the streets that are adjacent to Straub and Vinoy Park. This is a great family outing to go to. There will be 150 crafters with their items up for sale. You may even find some early Christmas gifts to purchase here. They will have things like handmade jewelry, personalized gifts, scented soaps, pottery, paintings, and handmade clothing. The admission is free! Usually you can grab a bite to eat if the food vendors here. There are also many restaurants in this area you can choose from. One popular restaurant is called Moon Under Water which is located at 332 Beach Drive Ne which is across the street from Straub Park. If your looking for parking, you can choose from off street parking meters to flat rate parking located in the entrance of the Pier.

Bring some kind of repellent, you will be glad you did. During the winter season there are fewer bugs are around. The tractor-drawn trolley will take you to and from the campsites and the beach. You may even see dolphins or manatees swimming around in the water. There is a fee for the ferry service that departs from Pine Island. Cayo Costa is located directly south of Boca Grande and West of Pine Island and N. Ft. Myers.

Sanibel Island is one of those places to go to when you just want to get away from it all and relax. Conch Tour Train

If your looking for a great way to see what Key West has to offer then the Conch Tour Train is the way to go. This tour takes 90 minutes and has two stops along the way. You will be happy to know that the first stop which is at Station Depot you get a 10 minute break. Here you can go shopping, which is one of my favorite things to do. There is also a place for refreshments such as home made fudge or you may want some ice cream. At Flagler Station which is the second stop, you can get out and go for a walk and have a look around. You can always get on the train again next time it comes around. You may have a difficult time finding a seat if you board the train at Flagler Station. It is better if you can board the train at Front Street. During the tour, you will get to see Ernest Hemingway's House which is spectacular to see. You will also see the Key West Aquarium. This is a great place to check out moray eels, sharks and turtles and dozens of tropical fish. It is also one of the most popular stops. So sit back, relax and enjoy the tour on the Conch Tour Train. I have found some great vacation rental homes. For instance, did you know that you can get a 2 bedroom, 1 bath which sleeps 4-6 people for only $27.00 a night at Sunrise Village, Gulf Shores, Alabama, USA? I know, I couldn't believe it either! I have stayed in hotels that cost more than that a night. The hotels didn't even compare to this vacation rental. When I stayed in hotels, I had to carry my laundry from the top floor all the way to the first floor. Well this vacation rental already comes equipped with it's own washer and dryer. I also like that this vacation rental has a full kitchen in it. I cannot tell you how many times I wished the hotels I stayed in had a kitchen. I could have brought my favorite foods along with me if I had a kitchen. I also like that there is free hi-speed Internet access and free nationwide telephone service here. I always bring my laptop with me when I travel so having hi-speed Internet access is very important to me. They also have a pool here and so much more. Next time I go on vacation I will be choosing gulf shores condos and Orange Beach beach rentals instead of choosing a hotel to stay in.

Cypress Gardens is a theme park, botanical park and water park all in one. If flowers are your thing, then this place is for you. There is a butterfly conservatory here as well as beautiful flowering beds. The animal sculptures are great to see which are on the Topiary Trail. The waterfall is spectacular to look at. You won't want to miss out on the animal park and petting zoo here. There are over 150 animals here. This park also has four roller coasters, a rapids ride along with other many other rides. If you like to shop, Jubilee Junction has gifts, clothes, toys and other things to choose from. There are also lots of places to eat at here. Arabian Nights Dinner Attraction

Arabian Nights Dinner Attraction is a great way to see a show with horses and have dinner at the same time. The horses are just beautiful and the show is very entertaining. The music and costumes give this show a real sense of excitement. The dinner is very good. I really enjoyed the prime rib. The end of the show was really something to see. All the horses were set free to run around inside their arena. You could not only hear the horses galloping but you could feel the vibration from all their hoofs hitting the dirt. International Plaza is one of those great shopping malls that you could spend all day just walking around. It is located near Tampa International Airport. Sometimes I will go here just before picking someone up from the airport. They have so many shops here, with 200 specialty shops. Sometimes I can get good deals here right after the holidays. This plaza also has lots of restaurants to choose from. I had lunch at the Cheesecake Factory the last time I was there. The lunch was very good and they were very generous with their portions.
